Tamcoc & Cucphuong National Park
2 days/1 night
Vietnam’s forests remain relatively unexplored and only recently have several areas been designated as nature preserves to protect the countries’ existing and endangered species. In some of these parks exist a wide variety of plant, bird, and mammal species including those listed in the World Red Book.
Cuc Phuong National Park is one of Vietnam’s most important nature reserves. The Park’s primary tropical rainforest is home to an amazing variety of wildlife and in recent years several species have been discovered here. This trip combines a mini-trek through Cuc Phuong with a visit to Hoa Lu, the old capital city of the first feudal dynasties who rules Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries. Some say the natural splendour of the Hoa Lu area surpasses that of Ha Long Bay.
Day 1: Hanoi – Hoa Lu
Hoa Lu, 100 km south of Hanoi, was the capital city of Vietnam under the Dinh Dynasty between AD 968 and AD 980. Some of the sanctuaries and tombs have survived the countless years and can still be visited today. Apart from the historical aspects, the area is also one of astounding natural beauty with limestone peaks whose splendor is often said to surpass that of Ha Long Bay. It is true that this area is often referred to as the Ha Long Bay on land. The tour includes being rowed along the Boi River, which makes for a truly unforgettable experience, passing between towering limestone peaks. We leave Hanoi at 0700 and head south for a 2 hour drive along Highway One. We spend one hour visiting the Dinh and Le sanctuaries and then move on to Tam Coc for a 3 hour boat trip along the Boi river. After lunch we make our way to Cuc Phuong National Park. This afternoon we will visit the Endangered Primate Rescue center and learn a little of the work that is being done to preserve the endangered native primates. Tonight we will spend the night in the heart o
f the forest with evening drifting off to sleep to the sounds of the nocturnal activity outside. (Lunch & Dinner included)
Day 2: Cuc Phuong National Park
Rising this morning with the sounds of the forest all around us, we head out for a trek through the lush rainforest that makes up the park. The trek will take in stops at centuries old giant trees and explore some caves where stone tools and borns of prehistoric humans have been found. We visit the museum at the park headquarter then get ready for a short walk to the look out when we enjoy a sweeping view to the surrounding. After lunch we drive back to Hanoi.
