VUNG TAU LIGHTHOUSE
In 1913, it was moved to the current
position, 170 meters higher above sea level.
The car path leading to the lighthouse winds
and swirls on the mountainside.
The lighthouse is a round tower, 18-meters
high, 3-meter diameter. Inside it has a
spiral staircase to the top and an outside
balcony for observation. The lighthouse used
to be operated mainly by French equipment,
which is still well kept. The original clock
work mechanism can be viewed.
The Vung Tau lighthouse is powered by a
1,500W lamp, which can be seen for 65
kilometers thanks to a grandiose prism
system. Today the lamp is rotated by an
electric motor. Two rays operate, making 2.4
circles a minute.
The lighthouse is cool and windy all the
time, and proves popular with locals and
tourists seeking a bird eye view of Vung Tau.
