The Christ Statue is located in the Southern Cape of Small Mountain, 170 meters above sea level. The white statue stands prominently against the blue sky, over looking the city with his arms outstretched, as if embracing the city.
The Catholic Association built the statue in 1974 and it was completed in 1993. The statue faces the South to the sea tolerantly and kindly. The statue is 32-meter high, and has 18.4-meter arms; metallic halo rays around his head, which are decorative and act as the lightning rod. It is said that this statue is even higher than the so-called highest Christ statue in the world, which is now in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Inside the statue are 133 spiral stairs, which light comes through in the oriental style “Tho” in Mandarin. The two arms are like two balconies in which tourists can enjoy fresh air and view of the panorama of Vung Tau from the 200-meter height.
The Christ Statue is set on four 4 concrete bow shaped pedestals, which are 10-meter high and 12 meter long. A relief of “The last Supper” of Léonardo de Vinci is in front of the Statue and another relief “Christ gives the key to Saint Pharos”.
Though the statue is made of concrete, with a granite coat, the figure is artistic and lively. The blending of natural environment and religious ancient art and traditional culture make the statue a real art monument.
